Des mises à jour ont été réalisées en 2000, 2006, 2012 et 2018. Il consiste en un inventaire de l'occupation des sols en 44 classes. La CLC utilise une unité cartographique minimale (MMU) de 25 hectares (ha) pour les phénomènes aréolaires et une largeur minimale de 100 m pour les phénomènes linéaires. Les séries temporelles sont complétées par des couches de changement, qui mettent en évidence les changements de la couverture terrestre avec une MMU de 5 ha. Les différentes MMU signifient que la couche de changement a une résolution plus élevée que la couche d'état. En raison des différences de MMU, la différence entre deux couches d'état ne sera pas égale à la couche de changement CLC correspondante. Si vous êtes intéressé par les changements de la CLC entre deux enquêtes de voisinage, utilisez toujours la couche de changement de la CLC.<br /> Le réseau Eionet des centres de référence nationaux Land Cover (NRC/LC) produit les bases de données nationales des CLC, qui sont coordonnées et intégrées par l'AEE. Les CLC sont produites par la majorité des pays par l'interprétation visuelle d'images satellites à haute résolution.
